WHEREAS, the August 1927 Bristol Recording Sessions launched the careers of country music legends, The Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers; and
WHEREAS, these artists are widely recognized as the first commercially successful country music performers; and
WHEREAS, Jimmie Rodgers is recognized as the "Father of Country Music"; and
WHEREAS, the Country Music Foundation, through its publication, "Country, the Music and the Musicians," has called the Bristol Recording Session the "Big Bang of Country Music"; and
WHEREAS, in 1984, the State of Tennessee recognized the City of Bristol as the "Birthplace of Country Music"; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby recognize the City of Bristol as the "Birthplace of Country Music"; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Birthplace of Country Music Alliance so that its members may be apprised of Bristol's designation as the "Birthplace of Country Music."
