Raised in Sevierville, Tennessee, Jennifer was just 7 years old when she started clogging and the twins, Lisa and Teresa, joined in. Clogging at the county’s bicentennial led to their appearing on a Knoxville TV show for the next four years. When their dad said whoever learned to play guitar could have his 1969 Martin, Jennifer took up the challenge. She was just 14 when she started playing and singing with the twins joining in on high harmonies. Later, Archie Campbell taught Teresa to sing low harmony.
The girls went to Nashville in 1987 and landed a record deal with Warner Brothers. They toured Europe with Randy Travis on a USO tour and were invited by Dolly Parton to appear on her syndicated TV show. They released two albums which charted in the Top 5.
The McCarter Sisters keep a busy live schedule and have extended their career into modeling and product endorsement.
