Seedtime on the Cumberland 2008

Kathy Mattea will appear at the Letcher County Central High School Auditorium on Saturday, June 14, with Lee Sexton opening. Mattea’s recently released album, “Coal”, is a collection of songs reflecting her deep roots in Appalachia. The program will commence at 7:00 PM. Tickets will be $17 at the door and $15 in advance (through June 6).

Darrell Scott and his father Wayne Scott will headline the Friday, June 13, evening concert on the Appalshop grounds. Tickets will be $16 at the door and $14 in advance (through June 6). Also appearing Friday, starting at 7:00 PM will be Songs of Coal (featuring Ron Short and Molly Slemp) and Kentucky Wild Horse.

Jesse McReynolds & the Virginia Boys from the Grand Ole Opry will appear in the Appalshop Theater on Thursday night, June 12, at 7:30 PM. Only 160 tickets ($15 each) will be available.

Seedtime on the Cumberland 2008 will also offer free film screenings on Tuesday, June 10, starting at 7:00 PM at the Appalshop, and on Saturday and Saturday afternoons. Instrument contests and Chuck Johnson's Annual Watermelon Eatin’, Seed Spittin', and Hollerin’ Contest will take place on Saturday afternoon as well. Storyteller Angie DeBord will perform Saturday afternoon and host a session with the women of the Cowan Community Center in the Appalshop Theater.

Singing on the Mountain will take place on Wednesday night, June 10, at 7:00 PM at the Indian Bottom Old Regular Baptist Church on KY 7 near Blackey.
The support of its sponsors makes possible the free components and helps keep the ticket costs down in the evening. Seedtime on the Cumberland offers cash and in-kind sponsorships at many levels ranging from $200 Friends all the way up to a $10,000 Presenting Sponsorship. Already committed as 2008 sponsors are the Lonesome Pine Office on Youth, Parkway Pharmacy, Community Trust Bank, the Parkway Inn, the Mountain Eagle newspaper, and Appalachian Regional Hospital - Whitesburg. Seedtime, as a part of Appalshop, also receives support from Kentucky Arts Council and the Appalshop Production & Education Fund.
