Learn more about the Crooked Road at www.thecrookedroad.org Bristol’s Rhythm & Roots Reunion (held every third weekend in September) is now permanently linked to The Crooked Road project. Though the organizations have always enjoyed a positive and supportive friendship, The Crooked Road will officially announce on Wednesday that Bristol’s Rhythm & Roots Reunion has been named an affiliated partner along Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail. The Birthplace of Country Music Alliance Museum is currently the only Bristol affiliate along The Crooked Road.
States Bill Smith, Executive Director of The Crooked Road, “Rhythm & Roots is an important event to our region. Not only is The Reunion a major tourist attraction, the festival goes a long way toward educating the public about the music that helped shape Bristol’s history. It helps instill a sense of pride in community and gives area musicians a powerful voice.”
“This is wonderful news for us here at Rhythm & Roots,” says Reunion Executive Director Leah Ross. “We have always worked together to support each other in our endeavors, and we believe in The Crooked Road’s mission to promote the music of our region. That’s something we share. We look forward to the future as a partnering affiliate of the project that’s done so much for tourism in southwest Virginia.”
Bill Hartley, Executive Director of The Birthplace of Country Music Alliance, is a staunch supporter of his neighbors at Rhythm & Roots and looks forward to the possibilities the union suggests. “When organizations work together toward a common goal—especially volunteer organizations—barriers are easier to cross. You have an alliance and network of people to turn to for answers when you’re encountering new challenges. The exchanging of ideas can lead to more creative marketing and fundraising strategies, of getting your message across. We’ve always enjoyed working together, the only difference is now it’s official.
