John L. VanArsdall, aka “CanJoe John,” will be at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum, lower level Bristol Mall, on Saturday December 17 from 1:00 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. for a CD signing and demonstration performance of his canjoe.

“Canjoe John” of Blountville, TN, makes his living by creating, building, and selling his very unique one stringed instrument called canjoes. His canjoe instruments have now become highly sought after collectible works of art. Each hand crafted instrument is comprised of a finger board with just ten frets, one tuner key, and one string pulled through a twelve ounce beverage can as the resonator.

In 2000, he released his CD, One String, One Can, One Man, and One Band.... A year later, the release of a music video from the single track "Wayfaring Stranger" began airing on select cable networks around the country. “CanJoe John” tours the country, performing at major festivals and doing radio and television interviews, weaving together music with his southern mountain humor in a truly Appalachian, purely Americana style.

He was recently featured in Indie music guru Daylle Deanna Schwartz’s recent book, I Don’t Need a Record Deal!: Your Survival Guide for the Indie Music Revolution. Based on interviews with over 150 people who have contributed their experiences and insight into today's music business, the book serves as a guide for surviving and thriving by developing an independent music career. The book is currently available in major book stores, from the author at www.idontneedarecorddeal.com [2], or at www.amazon.com [3]. For information about “CanJoe John” or the CanJoe Company products available, visit his website at www.canjoe.com [4] or call (423) 323-0174.

The Birthplace of Country Music Alliance is a non-profit organization dedicated to telling the story of the living musical heritage of the Appalachian mountains and the cultural traditions that sustain it. The BCMA is funded in part by grants from the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the Tennessee Arts Commission. For more information, call (276) 645-0111.
