Youth Music Competition

Location: Birthplace of Country Music Museum
The Birthplace of Country Music Museum will host the 5th Annual Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion Youth Music Competition. The competition is open to youth ages 5-18 playing the Banjo, Fiddle/Violin, Guitar, Mandolin, Band, and the new category Voice (unaccompanied). This contest will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017 during Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion, beginning at 10 AM at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum at 520 Birthplace of Country Music Way Bristol, Virginia.
Pre-registration is strongly suggested since each category is limited to 15 participants but registration will be allowed on the morning of September 16 if there are spaces remaining in that category. Registration fee is $10 and each registrant will receive a Single Day Passes to Bristol Rhythm and Roots 2017 for participating. (You do not need a Bristol Rhythm and Roots pass to get to or enter the museum as it is not part of the festival foot print.) *Please make checks payable to Birthplace of Country Music.
Registration is closed for the 2017 Youth Music Competition
Pre-registration is strongly suggested since each category is limited to 15 participants. For pre-registration and to guarantee your spot in the competition, forms must be signed by a parent or guardian and returned with entry fee by Friday, September 15. You may register at the door between 9:00 am and 9:30 am on Saturday, September 16 at the museum but please note if categories are already full with pre-registrants, you may not be able to compete.
Prizes will be awarded immediately after the contest on Saturday, September 16 to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place finishers of each instrument category.
1 st Place – Cash Prize of $100
2nd Place – Cash Prize of $50
3rd Place – Cash Prize of $25
Each registrant will also receive a Single Day Pass to Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion 2017 for participating. (You do not need a Bristol Rhythm and Roots pass to get to or enter the museum as it is not part of the festival foot print.) Performances will be videotaped, audiotaped and photographed for promotional purposes by the Birthplace of Country Music. By signing the form you agree to abide by the terms listed above.
GENERAL RULES & INFORMATION
*All instruments must be acoustic and no amplification will be allowed. Instruments will be played acoustically into a microphone.
*Fiddle/Banjo/Mandolin/Guitar competitors: No accompaniment or vocals will be allowed during individual categories. You may introduce yourself and give the name of the songs you are playing, but no singing or other comments are allowed.
* For the Band competition- bands must be at least 3 persons. Vocals will be allowed during the band competition.
* For the NEW Vocal category, no accompaniment is allowed.
* A 6 minute time limit will be enforced and participants are only allowed to play/sing up to two songs or a medley of more than one song of their choosing during the competition. The songs may be any style you choose. The 6 minute limit also applies to the band competition.
*All Participants must arrive between 9:00 AM –9:30 AM on Saturday, September 16 for registration, check-in, rule verification and playing order drawing. Playing order will be drawn at random.
*If the player breaks a string during performance they should stop immediately and repair the string or have the string repaired for them and continue their performance immediately thereafter.
*Individuals must perform while their particular contest is taking place. Once that contest is finished no other contestants will be allowed to perform in that category. The band competition will occur last.
*Score cards will not be given out and all Judges’ decisions are final. Judges may choose whether or not they wish to speak to parents or participants about performances after the competition.
